So you are interested in the popular microneedling treatment, but the thought of a bunch of small needles running up your face over and over seems painful!
If you have not heard of microneedling previously, it is a skincare procedure where small needles are used to prick the skin. The purpose of treatment is to generate new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, more toned skin.
So does this treatment hurt? Without the form of some type of anesthetic cream, yes, this would be a painful procedure; however, thankfully, this treatment is not performed without the patient being numbed first!
At the start of the treatment, a topical anesthetic is used to numb the skin which takes about 30 minutes to kick in. Once kicked in, the patient feels very little discomfort during the treatment and typically can only feel the pressure from the microneedling device on the skin.
This numbing cream helps ensure that the treatment is comfortable for the patient while still remaining effective. Most patients only feel a mild discomfort during the procedure with the numbing cream applied.
