Microneedling is a procedure that has been growing in popularity over the past few years. But does it hurt? How bad is the pain? In this article, we will give you an honest guide to microneedling – including how painful it is and what you can expect during and after the procedure.

1. What is microneedling and what are its benefits?

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves puncturing the skin with fine needles. It is often used to improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and scars. The theory behind microneedling is that by creating tiny wounds in the skin, the body will go into “healing mode” and produce new collagen and elastin. This, in turn, can help improve the appearance of the skin.

There are a number of benefits that have been associated with microneedling, including:

– Reduced wrinkles and fine lines

– Smoother skin texture

– Diminished scars (including acne scars)

– Improved overall skin tone

2. How does the procedure work?

During a microneedling procedure, a device is used to create tiny punctures in the skin. The depth of the punctures can be adjusted depending on the specific needs of the patient. After the punctures have been made, a serum or other topical solution may be applied to the skin.

Microneedling can be done on the face, neck, décolletage, and other areas of the body.

Most microneedling procedures take 30 minutes to an hour to complete.

The number of treatments required depends on the individual’s goals and needs. Some people may see results after just one treatment, while others may require multiple treatments.

3. What to expect after the treatment

After the treatment, the skin may appear red and irritated. This is normal and will typically go away within a few hours. It is important to avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen when going outside.

Some people may experience minor side effects, such as bruising, swelling, or dryness. These side effects are usually temporary and will go away on their own.

In rare cases, more serious side effects can occur, such as infection or scarring. However, these side effects are rare and usually only occur when the procedure is not done properly.

4. How painful is microneedling?

Microneedling is not a pain-free procedure. However, the level of pain is usually manageable and tolerable.

Most people will receive a topical numbing cream to help with the discomfort. The numbing cream will be applied before the procedure and will typically last for 30 to 60 minutes.

After the procedure, the skin may be sore or tender. This is normal and will usually go away within a few hours. Over-the-counter pain medication can be taken if needed.

5. Cost of microneedling

The cost of microneedling varies depending on a number of factors, such as the number of treatments needed, the area being treated, and the geographical location.

On average, one treatment can range from $300 to $500.

Some providers may offer discounts for multiple treatments. It is important to consult with a provider to get an accurate estimate of the cost.
