Visit The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, GA

The Georgia Aquarium is a nonprofit organization dedicated to aquatic life and conservation. It’s located in downtown Atlanta on the beautiful Chattahoochee riverfront by Centennial Olympic Park. In November 2001, Bernard Marcus unveiled his plan to put up an aquarium in Atlanta that would promote learning and economic development. He donated $250 million to the Georgia Aquarium after touring 56 aquariums in 13 nations with his wife, Billi Marcus.

The aquarium houses over 11 million gallons of water and thousands of species of marine animals worldwide. A visit will introduce you to more than 100,000 animals, including whale sharks, beluga whales, bottlenose dolphins, and many others.

The Georgia Aquarium is a great place to spend a day with your family. There’s so much to see and do, including whale watching, learning about aquatic life, taking a swim through the underwater ocean tunnel, or watching dolphins swim from above. It includes an exciting 4-D theater that will give you a sense of being on top of the ocean, as well as special exhibits throughout the year that highlight different parts of the world.

Tourists who have visited The Georgia Aquarium have given it positive reviews. Many others have said they enjoyed going because it helped them learn more about aquatic animals and provide ideas for their next vacation.

Things to Do in Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium has lots of options for visitors to enjoy. There are different ticket options, including general admission to the aquarium and special exhibits.

4-D Theatre Programs – The 4-D Theatre takes you on a journey through the ocean. The seats move, water sprays at you, and other special effects give an interactive experience that makes it seem like you’re part of the show.

Cold Water Quest – This exhibit features several fishes and mammals native to different regions throughout the world. This unique exhibit is a favorite for families with small children. It includes touch pools that allow them to feel and learn about aquatic animals up close. Visitors may see how trainers educate sea otters, observe the African Penguins waddle, or learn about beluga whale conservation efforts.

Tropical Diver – Thousands of brightly colored reef fish and living corals call the Tropical Diver home, recreating a tropical Pacific coral reef. With 164,000 gallons of water, this reef habitat is the largest exhibit and features Indo-Pacific tropical fishes. The exhibits have been organized in a sort of living art, with garden eels emerging from the sand, making for a pleasant end to your aquarium tour.

Ocean Voyager – The aquarium’s largest habitat, Ocean Voyager, is a 500,000-gallon tank known as the aquarium’s centerpiece. It showcases thousands of fish representing species from four distinct ocean basins: The Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Caribbean Sea. Sharks are one of the most popular parts of this exhibit.

Dolphin Tales – Dolphin Tales takes you on a journey through the lives of the dolphins at the Georgia Aquarium. It’s an exciting way to learn about these intelligent creatures and lets visitors interact with them as well. Several different programs are available throughout the day, like “dolphin cam,” dolphin feedings, and more.

River Scout – Southern Company River Scout, is the only freshwater gallery in the aquarium. This exhibit includes an overhead North American river, waterfalls, and logjams. Watch the local environment and meet exotic freshwater animals from Asia, Africa, and South America in this exhibit. In this exhibit, you’ll learn more about river creatures and the value of keeping rivers clean for their benefit.

Aquanaut Adventure – The Aquanaut Adventure: A Discovery Zone is a large aquarium with several smaller exhibits and hands-on activities. Visitors can learn about the world’s oceans through hands-on exploration and play. Visitors will explore the marine and freshwater habitats and understand how important these areas are to the survival of aquatic animals.

SHARKS! Predators of the Deep – This exhibit takes visitors inside a 375,000-gallon living ocean of sand tiger sharks, sawfish, and stingrays. In addition to the habitat, you can learn about these sea creatures, fun activities for the family to enjoy, and see what it’s like to be an aquarium diver.
