What causes age spots
Age spots, also called solar lentigines, commonly appear on sun-exposed areas such as the face and hands. UV exposure contributes to their development, but a brown spot should not be identified by color alone.
Before fading a spot, have a dermatologist confirm what it is. A new, changing, bleeding, or irregular spot needs medical assessment; some precancerous changes and skin cancers can resemble a harmless age spot.
