How Age Spot Treatment Works
Age spots (solar lentigines) are not actually related to age—they are the direct, cumulative result of prolonged UV exposure. When the skin defends itself against the sun, melanocytes overproduce pigment (melanin).
Over time, this excess pigment clumps together and becomes permanently trapped in the epidermis, creating dark, flat spots on the face, chest, and hands. Over-the-counter brightening creams cannot penetrate deep enough to break these bonds.
We use Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and targeted chemical acids to break apart trapped pigment at a cellular level, allowing the body to naturally shed it. The result is a measurably more even skin tone.

Yes. This is a normal and expected response called "MENDs" (Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris). The laser brings the shattered pigment to the surface, causing it to look like dark coffee grounds for 3–5 days before flaking off to reveal clear skin.
Most patients describe BBL and laser treatments as feeling like a quick, warm rubber band snap against the skin. It is very tolerable, and we use advanced cooling techniques to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure.
Generally, no. Melasma is hormonally driven and intense heat from traditional lasers can trigger it to worsen. Instead, we use the non-ablative MOXI laser or specialized Chemical Peels, which are safe and effective for lifting melasma.
You will see visible results 1 to 2 weeks after your first session once the spots finish flaking off. Depending on the depth of the sun damage, it typically requires 1 to 3 sessions to clear the pigment completely.
