Ideal Candidate
Most healthy adults wanting fuller, more defined, or more balanced lips are good candidates. The reversibility of HA filler makes it well-suited to first-time patients. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active cold sore or herpes simplex outbreak (take prophylactic antivirals if you have a history), active skin infection at the injection site, a history of severe allergic reactions, or known lidocaine allergy. Mention blood thinners at booking. Do not schedule dental work within 2 weeks before or after.

Injection Techniques
Lip fillers use FDA-approved Hyaluronic Acid (HA) gels — like Restylane Kysse — to add volume and hydration to the lips from the inside out. HA is a substance naturally present in the body; when injected, it binds water and provides soft, structured volume.

Lip Asymmetry
Most people have some degree of natural asymmetry between their upper and lower lip, or between the left and right sides. Targeted filler placement can balance uneven lips by selectively adding volume where it’s needed, correcting discrepancies in shape, height, or projection without overfilling the larger side.
Age-Related Volume Loss
Lips naturally lose volume and definition with age as collagen production declines. The vermillion border (lip line) flattens, and the lips themselves appear thinner and less hydrated. Smoker’s Lines & Lip Lines
Vertical lines that radiate from the lip border — commonly called smoker’s lines or perioral lines — develop from repeated muscle movement and collagen loss. Small amounts of filler placed along and just above the lip border smooth these lines while restoring structure. For deeper perioral lines, a lip flip with Botox can complement filler by relaxing the orbicularis oris muscle.
Undefined Cupid’s Bow
A flat or poorly defined Cupid’s bow can make the upper lip appear shapeless. Precise filler placement at the two peaks of the upper lip and along the philtral columns creates a sharper, more structured “V” shape. This technique works well on its own or combined with overall volume enhancement for a balanced result.
Filler Migration or Correction
If previous lip filler from another provider has migrated, become lumpy, or produced an uneven result, we offer correction services. Existing HA filler is dissolved using Hylenex (hyaluronidase enzyme) to return lips to their natural baseline. Lip Filler vs. Lip Flip
Lip filler and the lip flip are the two most common cosmetic lip treatments, but they work through entirely different mechanisms. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right approach — or combination — for your goals.
If you want actual volume increase — fuller, more defined lips — filler is the right choice. If you want a subtle change without added volume, the lip flip is a lower-commitment option. Many patients combine both: filler for volume and shape, plus a lip flip for additional upper lip visibility.
What to Expect: Before, During & After
A lip filler appointment runs 45–60 minutes including numbing. Most patients return to normal activities the same day.
Consultation & Goal Setting
Your injector assesses your lip anatomy, discusses your goals, and recommends a technique — Russian Lip, Classic Plump, or Cupid’s Bow Enhancement. You’ll review expected outcomes and agree on a treatment plan before proceeding.
Numbing
A medical-grade topical numbing cream is applied to the lips and surrounding tissue and sits for 20–30 minutes until the area is fully desensitized. All Restylane fillers also contain lidocaine within the gel for additional comfort during injection.
Injection
Filler is placed in small, precise increments using a fine needle. Your injector works in stages — injecting, assessing symmetry, and adjusting — to build volume gradually. Most patients describe the sensation as mild pressure. One syringe typically takes 15–20 minutes to place.
Immediate Review
Results are visible right away, though lips will appear slightly larger than the final result due to initial swelling. Your injector reviews the outcome with you using a mirror and takes post-treatment photos for your records.
Settling & Final Results
Swelling peaks within 24–48 hours, then subsides progressively. Minor bruising is possible and typically resolves within 3–5 days. The filler fully integrates with your tissue by day 7–10, at which point you’ll see the final, settled result.
Post-Treatment Tips
Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging your lips for at least 24 hours. Apply ice gently (wrapped in cloth) for 10 minutes at a time to manage swelling. Avoid strenuous exercise, hot showers, saunas, and alcohol for 24–48 hours. Sleep with your head slightly elevated the first night. Do not apply lipstick or lip products for 6–8 hours.
