common questions

Microneedling can be performed on patients of all skin types and textures, even patients with sensitive skin. A good candidate for microneedling is someone in good health without any active infections or active acne lesions. In addition, anyone with an active herpetic lesion should not have microneedling until the infection resolves. A history of keloids, eczema, or psoriasis is also a relative contraindication for microneedling.

SkinPen and other microneedling procedures have a myriad of benefits for almost all ages and skin types, even patients with sensitive skin. As it can be used on all parts of the body, on the face, neck, stomach, legs, chest, back and hands, it can stimulate new collagen and elastin production virtually anywhere. Plus, through using these tiny needles, serums and growth factors can get infused directly into the skin and increases absorption and effectiveness.

Microneedling is a simple, painless way to reduces sun damage, sun spots, melasma, and hyperpigmentation, as well as stretch marks, fine lines, and wrinkles. Microneedling can even temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite. As microneedling reduces pore size and improves tone and texture of the skin, it’s able to treat acne marks and acne scarring with virtually no down time. Additionally, dermapen microneedling is incredibly customizable, as needles can be adjusted for depth of penetration for different parts of the face and body. SkinPen microneedling has been an amazing breakthrough in skin rejuvenation to achieve beautiful, younger-looking skin.

Microneedling is an ideal treatment option for those who suffer from acne scars. As microneedling engages the natural wound healing process of the body, it’s able to rewire the skin’s “memory” of acne scarring, and in turn rejuvenate the skin and eliminate the appearance of acne scars.

Microneedling’s collagen induction and elastin boost both work to tighten skin. Microneedling is frequently used to tighten the surface of the skin, creating a healthy, youthful glow.

The majority of patients feel little to no discomfort during their treatments. Before your microneedling procedure, the treatment area is numbed with a topical numbing cream to prevent any potential discomfort. After 30 minutes, the treatment area is cleaned with alcohol and the microneedling process begins.

Microneedling’s use of fine needles creates tighter, younger looking skin in just a few treatments. Microneedling is able to stimulate the wound-healing system of the body in order to improve the skin’s elasticity and boost collagen for a wide variety of patients. Our providers generally recommend 3 to 5 microneedling sessions spaced one month apart and biannual follow-up treatments for the best cosmetic results. In cases where patients have deeper acne scars or winkles, your provider may suggest other skin resurfacing treatments.

There are minimal side effects associated with microneedling.  As long as the procedure is performed in a medical office, under sterile conditions, there is little chance of serious side effects.  Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure which our providers performs daily in our Atlanta based office. Microneedling is safe for all skin types and has a low risk of hyperpigmentation or skin discoloration. The procedure itself is painless as a topical anesthetic is applied before the microneedling is performed. You may feel some tiny pinpricks as the tiny needles glide on the treatment area.

For the majority of patients, optimal results can be achieved from 3-5 SkinPen microneedling treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart. If there are deeper acne scars, then more microneedling treatments may be necessary and, typically, our providers recommend biannual follow-up treatments for the best cosmetic result. The microneedles will be adjusted, based on the area of the body being treated and the specific cosmetic indication. There is no bruising or downtime associated with any steps of this procedure.

As Microneedling is able to reduce the skin’s memory of injury and scarring, any scar removal or reduction from microneedling will indeed be permanent. However, results can continue to improve further from follow-up treatments.

If patients have deeper acne scars or winkles, our providers may suggest other skin resurfacing treatments to in combination with microneedling treatment, resulting in renewed, younger looking skin.

If you’re frustrated by acne scars, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, or stretch marks, Microneedling may be exactly what you’ve been looking for. It’s an innovative, effective way to improve elastin and collagen production, which in turn can eliminate scar tissue and revitalize the skin.
