Rosacea Treatments

Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that most often affects the face. It causes redness, visible blood vessels, and pimples. Rosacea can also cause burning and stinging. Rosacea is a common condition, affecting more than 16 million Americans. The cause of rosacea is unknown, but it may be due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Rosacea is not caused by poor hygiene. Rosacea cannot be cured, but it can be controlled with proper medical treatment.

There are four subtypes of rosacea: erythematotelangiectatic, papulopustular, phymatous, and ocular.

Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea is characterized by redness and visible blood vessels. Papulopustular rosacea causes redness, swelling, and pimples. Phymatous rosacea causes thickening of the skin and enlargement of the nose. Ocular rosacea affects the eyes and can cause redness, burning, and stinging.
