Hyperpigmentation
Treatments
Medical-grade chemical peels and fractional laser technology target trapped melanin at a cellular level to clear dark spots, melasma, and uneven tone safely across all skin types.
How Pigment Correction Works
Hyperpigmentation occurs when melanocytes go into overdrive due to sun exposure, hormonal shifts (melasma), or skin trauma (post-acne marks). This excess melanin becomes stubbornly trapped deep within the dermis.
Treating pigment requires clinical precision. Aggressive heat or the wrong laser wavelength on skin of color can trigger "rebound pigmentation," making dark spots worse.
We utilize color-blind fractional lasers (like MOXI), targeted Intense Pulsed Light (BBL), and medical-grade chemical peels to safely lift trapped melanin at a cellular level, revealing even, healthy skin underneath.
Clinical Pathways
Different types of pigment require different modalities. We map your hyperpigmentation and build a customized clearing regimen based on your skin type, pigment depth, and history.
MOXI Laser
A "color-blind" fractional laser that generates very low heat, making it safe for treating hormonally driven melasma and deep pigmentation across all skin types without causing rebound darkening.
Chemical Peels
Medical-grade resurfacing peels (like the VI Peel Precision Plus) utilize specialized lightening boosters to accelerate cellular turnover, lifting dark patches left behind by severe breakouts.
BBL® Hero
The gold standard for age spot and sun damage removal. BroadBand Light therapy targets the melanin in the dark spot, heating and shattering it. The spot darkens briefly before naturally flaking off.
Laser Facial
A customizable, zero-downtime light therapy session designed to gently break apart surface pigmentation, reduce mild redness, and restore an even, healthy complexion.
Medical Microneedling
A completely heat-free alternative for treating pigment in highly reactive skin types. Micro-channels break up surface melanin while stimulating fresh, healthy collagen production.
Medical Skincare
Pigmentation requires constant suppression. We prescribe medical-grade brightening systems (including Hydroquinone and Vitamin C) from ZO Skin Health to stop melanin production at the source.

What to know before booking a pigmentation treatment at ELLEMES.
Melasma is a chronic, hormonally-driven condition. While it cannot be permanently "cured," it can be effectively managed and suppressed. We clear the visible pigment with safe lasers (like MOXI) and keep the melanocytes dormant using strict, daily medical-grade skincare.
This is a critical consideration. Intense heat lasers (like BBL) can sometimes trigger more hyperpigmentation in melanin-rich skin types. For patients with deeper skin tones, we use safe low-heat lasers like MOXI, paired with specific chemical peels to lift pigment without risk of rebound darkening.
Yes. If you are treating sun damage with BBL, this is a normal and expected biological response called "MENDs" (Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris). The laser shatters the pigment, bringing it to the surface where it looks like dark coffee grounds for 3–5 days before safely flaking off.
Tyrosinase is the enzyme responsible for producing melanin. A tyrosinase inhibitor (like Hydroquinone, Vitamin C, or Kojic Acid) blocks this enzyme. Using these medical-grade topicals at home is required to prevent pigment from returning after treatment.
Surface sun spots treated with BBL typically flake off in 1–2 weeks. Deeper pigment issues, like melasma or severe post-acne marks (PIH), usually require a series of treatments over 3 to 6 months to achieve full clearance.
