Melasma
Treatments
We use low-heat fractionated lasers, targeted chemical peels, and prescription tyrosinase inhibitors to lift deep melasma and manage hormonal flare-ups without triggering rebound pigmentation.
How Melasma Treatment Works
Unlike standard sun damage, melasma is deeply rooted in hormonal fluctuations (such as pregnancy or birth control) and vascular inflammation. Because of this, the condition is highly reactive.
If a provider uses a high-heat laser (like IPL or traditional resurfacing) on melasma, it will aggressively rebound, causing the dark patches to spread and darken permanently. Heat is the enemy of melasma.
We strictly avoid aggressive heat. Instead, we use gentle fractionated lasers, deep chemical exfoliation, and mandatory at-home melanin suppressants to safely lift existing pigment while putting overactive melanocytes to sleep.
Clinical Pathways
Melasma is highly reactive — there is no one-size-fits-all approach. We map your pigment depth and build a customized, heat-safe clearance regimen. Your provider will recommend the right option.
MOXI Laser
A "color-blind", low-heat fractional laser. Because it generates very low thermal energy, MOXI is safe for treating hormonally driven melasma and deep pigmentation across all skin types without causing rebound darkening.
Chemical Peels
Medical-grade resurfacing peels (like the VI Peel Precision Plus) use specialized lightening boosters to accelerate cellular turnover, lifting dark patches of melasma without heat.
Medical Microneedling
A completely heat-free alternative for treating pigment in highly reactive skin types. Micro-channels break up surface melanin mechanically while stimulating fresh collagen production.
Custom Brightening Facials
Between more aggressive treatments, clinical facials infused with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, and Vitamin C help maintain even tone and keep the skin barrier hydrated.
Dermaplaning
Surgical-grade scalpel exfoliation removes the dead skin barrier, allowing at-home brightening serums and tyrosinase inhibitors to penetrate significantly deeper.
Medical Skincare
Melasma requires constant suppression. We prescribe medical-grade brightening systems (including Hydroquinone, Vitamin C, and Cysteamine) from ZO Skin Health to stop melanin production at the source.

Questions
What to know before booking melasma treatment at ELLEMES.
Melasma is a chronic, hormonally-driven condition. While it cannot be permanently cured, it can be effectively managed and suppressed. We clear visible pigment with safe lasers (like MOXI) and keep the melanocytes dormant using strict, daily medical-grade skincare.
Melasma is extremely sensitive to heat. Intense heat lasers (like standard IPL or BBL) can trigger the melanocytes to produce more pigment, causing a severe rebound flare-up. This is why we strictly use safe, low-heat fractional lasers like MOXI for melasma patients.
Yes. We specialize in treating melanin-rich skin. We use safe "color-blind" lasers like MOXI, paired with specific chemical peels and microneedling to lift pigment without the risk of causing Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH).
Yes, it is mandatory. Tyrosinase is the enzyme responsible for producing melanin. A tyrosinase inhibitor (like Hydroquinone, Vitamin C, or Kojic Acid) actively blocks this enzyme. Using these medical-grade topicals at home prevents your melasma from returning after we clear it in the clinic.
Because melasma is often deeply rooted in the dermis, it requires a dedicated series of treatments over 3 to 6 months for full clearance. You will see steady lightening after each session and as your prescribed skincare routine takes effect.
