Botox Cosmetic is approved for moderate to severe frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and platysma bands in adults. Other uses discussed here, including lip flips, masseter treatment, and TrapTox, are off-label. Your provider should explain the benefits, risks, and alternatives for the specific concern. Fillers and laser procedures have different uses and also require assessment.
Ideal Candidate
Suitability depends on the product, treatment area, medical history, and medicines. Tell your provider about prior toxin reactions, muscle or nerve conditions, swallowing or breathing problems, and infection at a proposed injection site. Preventative Treatment
Some adults consider treatment before expression lines become more noticeable. Preventing future wrinkles is not a guaranteed outcome or a reason everyone should start young. Discuss current concerns and the option of no treatment.
Hyperhidrosis
Botox has an approved indication for severe primary underarm sweating inadequately managed by topical treatment. The injection is into the skin, and suitability and duration of benefit vary. Botox prescribing information describes this specific medical use; it should not be assumed to apply to Dysport.
Lip Flip
A lip flip is an off-label use of a botulinum toxin product. It aims to change how the upper lip appears during movement, rather than add volume. Unwanted weakness can affect lip function. Discuss those risks and alternatives, including whether a lip filler consultation is appropriate, before choosing a procedure.
Neck Bands & TrapTox
Botox Cosmetic is FDA-approved to temporarily improve moderate to severe platysma bands in adults; this is distinct from off-label shoulder treatment. TrapTox is an off-label trapezius treatment with potential weakness and other complications. Ask about the evidence, risks, and alternatives for the specific concern.
Botox vs. Dysport at ELLEMES
Botox and Dysport are different botulinum toxin products with different approved uses and product-specific doses. Botox is $13 per Botox unit; Dysport is $13 per Botox-equivalent billing unit at ELLEMES. Billing units are a pricing convention, not interchangeable drug units. Your provider confirms the product, actual dose, and total quote before treatment.

What to Expect: Before, During & After
A Botox appointment at ELLEMES typically takes 15–20 minutes. Here’s the process from preparation through to maintenance.
Preparation
Tell your provider about all medicines and supplements, including aspirin, ibuprofen, anticoagulants, fish oil, and vitamin E. Do not stop or change a prescribed medicine unless the clinician who prescribed it advises you to. Arrive with clean skin. First appointments allow 30 minutes for consultation and treatment; return visits are typically 15 minutes.
Consultation & Mapping
Your provider assesses your facial anatomy, discusses your goals, and marks the injection sites. The treatment plan is determined based on your muscle activity and desired outcome — not a standard area template.
The Treatment
Injection discomfort varies. Some patients describe a brief pinch; pain and bruising can occur. Tell your provider about needle sensitivity and ask about appropriate comfort measures.
Results Develop
Changes may begin within days and continue to develop. A two-week follow-up can assess response and concerns; it is not a promise of a settled result or an automatic additional injection.
Maintenance
Duration varies by product, area, and individual response. Review the result with your provider before deciding on further treatment; repeat procedures should follow product labeling.
Immediately After

How Often & Why
A single treatment shows you how your muscles respond, how much softening you prefer, and whether the dosing feels right. A solid baseline for establishing your ongoing protocol.
Some patients consider repeat treatment around three to four months. Timing should follow your response and product labeling; rebooking sooner is not a proven way to extend the effect.
At each visit, review the previous response, side effects, and goals to decide whether to adjust your plan.
Discuss timing and suitability if you are also considering dermal fillers or MOXI laser. A combined visit is not automatically appropriate or more effective.
How Botox Works
Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved injectable neuromodulator. It works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that tell specific facial muscles to contract. When those muscles relax, the overlying skin smooths out — reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles caused by years of repeated expressions like squinting, frowning, and raising your brows.
Lines visible at rest can have several causes, including skin changes and volume loss. Dermal fillers and resurfacing have different indications and risks; they are not automatically the best treatment for every static line.
Botox has specific approved medical indications, including severe primary underarm sweating. Masseter treatment for jaw symptoms is off-label and requires discussion of uncertain benefit and risks. Cosmetic platysma-band treatment is a separate approved indication. Clinical protocols are overseen by medical director Dr. Mark Grimsley, MD; your injector assesses suitability before treatment.
