Concerns Treated
Addresses sun damage and photoaging, uneven skin tone, fine lines and early wrinkles, melasma, rough or dull texture, and preventive “prejuvenation” skin care. MOXI is best for patients who want gradual, cumulative improvement with minimal downtime — for deep wrinkles or severe scarring, a more intensive ablative laser may be recommended.
Ideal Candidate
MOXI suits patients of all skin types and tones who want to correct early sun damage, even out tone, or proactively maintain skin quality with little disruption to their routine. It is one of the few lasers considered safe for melasma and for darker skin tones, and can be performed year-round. Not recommended during active skin infections, with a recent tan or sunburn, during pregnancy, or while on photosensitizing medication. Your provider will confirm candidacy at consultation.
MOXI vs. Ablative Laser
MOXI is non-ablative — it delivers thermal energy into the dermis without removing the skin surface, so downtime is short (3–5 days of light texture) and it’s safe for all skin tones. Ablative lasers vaporize the outer skin layer for more aggressive correction of deep wrinkles and scarring, but require 7–14+ days of recovery and carry more risk for darker skin tones. MOXI favors gradual improvement; ablative favors dramatic, single-session change.
How MOXI Works
MOXI by Sciton is a non-ablative fractional laser designed for both correction and prevention. It delivers targeted thermal energy into the dermis to stimulate collagen production and accelerate cell turnover — without removing the skin’s surface layer.
Because it leaves the epidermis intact, recovery is minimal. MOXI is commonly used as a “prejuvenation” treatment — addressing early sun damage, tone irregularities, and fine lines before they become deep-set.
Safe for all skin types and tones, year-round — including during summer months when ablative lasers are typically contraindicated.
The Benefits
Collagen Stimulation
Fractional laser energy creates controlled micro-injuries in the dermis, triggering new collagen and elastin production that continues for weeks after treatment.
Minimal Downtime
Non-ablative delivery means the skin surface stays intact. Most patients experience 24–48 hours of mild redness and can apply makeup the next day.
All Skin Types & Tones
Unlike ablative lasers, MOXI’s wavelength and delivery method make it safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types, including darker tones, and safe to perform year-round.
Concerns MOXI Treats
MOXI addresses tone, texture, and early signs of aging. Here’s what it targets and how it works for each concern.
Sun Damage & Photoaging
Cumulative UV exposure causes brown spots, uneven pigmentation, and premature skin aging. MOXI’s fractional energy accelerates turnover of damaged cells while stimulating collagen renewal in the dermis — addressing both visible discoloration and the underlying structural changes. For patients with more advanced pigmentation, combining MOXI with BBL Photofacial targets surface-level and deeper pigment simultaneously.
Uneven Skin Tone
Hormonal changes, sun exposure, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can leave the skin looking blotchy or uneven. MOXI stimulates cell turnover to gradually replace discolored cells with new, evenly pigmented skin. Because the laser is non-ablative, it avoids the rebound hyperpigmentation risk that ablative lasers carry for darker skin tones. For stubborn pigmentation, a chemical peel between MOXI sessions can further accelerate results.
Fine Lines & Early Wrinkles
Fine lines around the eyes, forehead, and mouth develop as collagen and elastin break down with age and UV exposure. MOXI creates controlled micro-injuries that trigger the body’s wound-healing response, producing new collagen fibers that thicken and firm the skin over the following weeks. For dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement, combining MOXI with Botox or Dysport addresses both the surface and the underlying cause.
Melasma
Melasma presents as stubborn brown or grayish patches, often triggered by hormones or sun exposure. Many lasers can actually worsen melasma by generating too much heat. MOXI’s non-ablative, fractionated delivery is specifically designed to treat pigment irregularities without the thermal overload that triggers melasma flares — making it one of the few laser options considered safe for this condition.
Rough or Dull Texture
When dead skin cells accumulate and collagen production slows, skin loses its smoothness and natural light reflection. MOXI accelerates cell turnover and promotes new collagen formation, resulting in a smoother, more refined skin surface. Many patients notice visible improvement in skin clarity within 7–10 days of their first session. Between treatments, a HydraFacial can maintain hydration and pore clarity.
Preventive Skin Care
MOXI is one of the few laser treatments used specifically for “prejuvenation” — maintaining skin quality and reversing early damage before it becomes clinically significant. Patients in their 20s and 30s use MOXI as a proactive approach to slow visible aging, maintain collagen density, and keep tone and texture even over time. Because downtime is minimal, it fits easily into a routine maintenance plan alongside microneedling and medical-grade skincare.
MOXI vs. Ablative Laser
MOXI and ablative lasers both resurface the skin and stimulate collagen, but through very different intensities and recovery profiles. Here’s how they compare.
MOXI is ideal for patients who want gradual, cumulative improvement with minimal disruption to their routine. For patients with deeper concerns, your provider may recommend a stepped approach — starting with MOXI and progressing to more intensive treatments if needed. Schedule a consultation to determine the right laser for your skin.
What to Expect
A MOXI appointment runs 45–60 minutes including numbing time. Here’s what happens at each step.
Consultation & Skin Analysis
Your provider assesses your skin type, tone, and concerns — evaluating pigmentation, texture, and sun damage severity. Based on this analysis, they recommend the appropriate MOXI settings, coverage area (face, neck, and/or chest), and number of sessions.
Cleansing & Numbing
The treatment area is thoroughly cleansed to remove all makeup, sunscreen, and oils. A medical-grade topical numbing cream is then applied and left on for approximately 20–30 minutes to ensure comfort during the laser treatment.
Laser Treatment
The MOXI handpiece delivers fractionated non-ablative laser energy across the treatment area. Your provider adjusts the intensity based on your skin type and the targeted concern. Most patients describe the sensation as a light, prickly warmth.
Post-Treatment Soothing
A calming serum and medical-grade moisturizer are applied immediately after the laser pass. Your provider reviews aftercare instructions, including sunscreen requirements and what to expect during the healing process.
Recovery & Results
Expect mild redness and a “sandpaper” texture (MENDs — microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) for 3–5 days as treated cells shed and new skin emerges. Makeup can be worn after 24 hours. Collagen remodeling continues for weeks, with full results visible by 4–6 weeks.
Post-Treatment Tips
Apply SPF 30+ daily and avoid direct sun exposure for at least two weeks. Do not use retinoids, exfoliants, or active ingredients for 5–7 days. Let the MENDs (dark speckles) shed naturally — do not pick or scrub. Stay hydrated and use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer. See our full post-care instructions for detailed guidance.

Who Performs This Treatment
How Many Sessions & How Often
A single MOXI session produces visible improvement in skin clarity and tone within 7–10 days as the treated cells shed and new skin emerges. Often chosen before a special event or as an introduction to laser treatment.
For comprehensive improvement in sun damage, melasma, or textural concerns, 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart allow cumulative collagen remodeling and progressive pigment correction with each treatment.
After completing your initial series, periodic maintenance sessions (2–3 per year) preserve collagen density and even tone. Many patients schedule MOXI alongside seasonal skincare adjustments for sustained results.
Your provider will recommend the exact number and spacing based on your skin type, concerns, and goals. MOXI pairs well with BBL Photofacial for a combined “Hero/MOXI” protocol, and with microneedling for dual-pathway collagen stimulation.
Pairs Well With
MOXI addresses tone and texture at the dermal level. These treatments work on different layers or concerns to extend and complement your results.

BBL Photofacial
BBL targets pigmentation and vascular lesions at the surface while MOXI stimulates collagen renewal in the dermis — addressing two distinct layers of skin aging.

Microneedling
Mechanical collagen induction via microneedling complements MOXI’s thermal collagen stimulation — two different pathways to the same repair response.

HydraFacial
A non-invasive deep cleanse and hydration treatment between MOXI sessions. Keeps pores clear and skin hydrated during the collagen remodeling period.

Chemical Peel
Chemical exfoliation between MOXI sessions accelerates surface cell turnover, helping maintain even tone and texture between laser treatments.

“I trust Lauren with my life! I got a series of MOXI facials here and she has been so helpful through the process. When I went in for a consultation originally, I was nervous it would be a "salesy" vibe that I have gotten at other medical spas but it wasn't at all. She listened to my concerns, walked me through different options at different price points. Took her time to analyze my skincare routine and suggest possible tweaks without pushing products on me. Highly recommend Lauren and the team at ELLEMES!”
“Lauren is a wealth of knowledge and professional! She is an expert in skin, lasers and medical grade skin care. I just received my second MOXI laser and my skin has never looked better. It has helped my pigmentation and texture tremendously. Lauren is extremely thorough and made it a point to cover my entire face, neck and chest evenly. Her attention to detail is amazing! The spa is beautiful and all of the staff make a point to be kind and smile every time I am in!”
“Lauren is truly the best. I had a ton of hyperpigmentation from acne after going off birth control and she was so knowledgeable and understanding throughout the whole process. She definitely evaluated my skin as an individual and didn't just recommend a million different things to get money out of me. My main goals were scar removal and anti-aging and her individualized treatment with moxi+bbl got me exactly where I wanted to be. My skin has that glowy refreshed look and I have no lasting hyperpigmentation or fine lines.”
