Treatment Areas
The Restylane line covers the full face: lips (Kysse, Silk), cheeks and midface (Lyft, Contour), under-eyes and tear troughs (Eyelight), nasolabial folds and smile lines (Defyne, Refyne), jawline and chin (Lyft), and hands (Lyft). Your provider selects the right product for each area — not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Which Restylane Product
Kysse — soft, flexible lip augmentation with natural movement. Silk — finer gel for lip border definition and lip lines. Lyft — high lifting capacity for cheeks, jawline, chin, and the only HA filler FDA-approved for hands. Contour — cheek definition that flexes with movement. Defyne & Refyne — OBT-formulated for dynamic nasolabial folds and smile lines. Eyelight — FDA-cleared specifically for under-eye rejuvenation. Your provider selects the right one for your anatomy and goals.
Ideal Candidate
Best for patients who want to restore volume, refine contour, or smooth folds with a hyaluronic acid filler that can be dissolved if desired. Restylane is well-suited to precise work in mobile areas like the lips and under-eyes. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active infection or skin condition in the treatment area, or with a known allergy to a product component. Patients with a cold sore history should take antiviral prophylaxis before lip treatment. Your provider will assess candidacy at consultation.
What Restylane Does
Restylane is a collection of FDA-approved hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers manufactured by Galderma. Like all HA fillers, Restylane works by physically replacing the hyaluronic acid the skin loses with age — restoring volume, lifting soft tissue, smoothing folds, and rehydrating the dermis from within.
What distinguishes Restylane is its NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid) and OBT (Optimal Balance Technology) manufacturing processes. These produce a cohesive gel that integrates with tissue in a way many injectors find particularly controllable for precise, natural-looking placement — especially in dynamic areas like the lips and nasolabial folds.
The Restylane family includes products engineered for specific areas and depths: finer gels for delicate or mobile areas, denser gels for structural lift and definition. Your provider selects the right product for your anatomy and treatment goals — not a one-size-fits-all approach.
The Benefits
Precision Placement
Restylane’s NASHA gel technology produces a cohesive, particle-based consistency that many injectors find precise for targeted placement — especially in high-movement areas like the lips, nasolabial folds, and under eyes.
Natural Movement
Restylane Kysse, Defyne, and Refyne are formulated with OBT technology to flex and move with facial expressions rather than restricting them — ideal for the lips and smile lines.
Area-Specific Formulas
The Restylane collection includes products purpose-built for specific areas: Silk and Kysse for lips, Lyft for cheeks and hands, Contour for cheek definition, Defyne and Refyne for folds, and Eyelight for the under-eye area.
What We Address
The Restylane product line covers the full face. Here’s what each area involves and which product is typically used.
Lips
Restylane Kysse is FDA-approved for lip augmentation and uses OBT technology to produce a soft, flexible gel that adds volume while maintaining natural lip movement — a strong choice for patients who prioritize a natural feel over maximum projection. Restylane Silk is a finer-particle option used for lip border definition, fine lip lines, and subtle hydration-focused enhancement. Treatment addresses thin lips, asymmetry, flat borders, and age-related volume loss. Most patients start with 1 syringe; results typically last 9–12 months. See our full lip filler page for a complete breakdown.
Cheeks & Midface
Restylane Lyft is FDA-approved for midface augmentation and cheek enhancement. It has a higher lifting capacity and structural stiffness suited for deep placement near the bone, making it effective for restoring midface projection and lifting descending soft tissue. Restylane Contour is a newer addition formulated specifically for cheek contouring and definition — it uses OBT technology for a result that flexes naturally with movement while still providing structural lift. Treatment typically requires 1–2 syringes per side, with results lasting 12–18 months.
Under Eyes / Tear Trough
Restylane Eyelight is FDA-cleared specifically for under-eye rejuvenation — one of the few fillers with an indication explicitly for this area. It is formulated to minimize the Tyndall effect (the bluish discoloration that can occur when filler is placed too superficially in thin under-eye skin) and uses OBT technology for smooth, natural integration. The under-eye area requires conservative treatment — typically less than 1 syringe — and precise placement. When done correctly, it significantly reduces the appearance of dark circles and hollowing.
Nasolabial Folds & Smile Lines
Restylane Defyne and Refyne are OBT-formulated products designed specifically for dynamic facial folds. Refyne is softer and better suited for moderate folds and patients who want a subtle, flexible correction. Defyne is denser and more appropriate for deeper folds requiring more structural support. Both move with facial expressions rather than restricting them. Treatment addresses nasolabial folds (nose to mouth), marionette lines (mouth to chin), and other fold-type concerns. Results typically last 12 months.
Jawline & Chin
Restylane Lyft is commonly used for jawline definition and chin augmentation due to its high lifting capacity and structural stiffness suited for deep subdermal placement. It creates clean definition along the jawline and adds chin projection for improved profile balance. Jawline treatments typically require 2–4 syringes for visible structural results; chin augmentation typically requires 1–2 syringes. For patients also addressing submental fat, jaw filler pairs well with Kybella for a more complete lower face result.
Hands
Restylane Lyft is the only FDA-approved HA filler for hand rejuvenation. As the hands lose subcutaneous volume with age, tendons, veins, and bony structure become increasingly visible — creating a gaunt appearance inconsistent with a patient’s facial rejuvenation. Restylane Lyft restores volume across the dorsal hand, softening the appearance of veins and tendons. Treatment is quick — typically performed with a cannula across both hands in a single session — and results last approximately 6–12 months depending on hand activity and individual metabolism.
Restylane vs. Juvéderm
Restylane and Juvéderm are both FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler collections, and both are offered at ELLEMES. The differences between them are technical — gel consistency, manufacturing process, and how each integrates with tissue — rather than a matter of one being clinically superior. Provider experience with a specific product often matters more than brand alone.
At ELLEMES, we offer both brands and select the right product for each patient and area based on anatomy, goals, and provider preference — not brand loyalty. Your provider will recommend the best option during a consultation. If you have a brand preference, let your provider know.
What to Expect
A filler appointment runs 45–60 minutes for a single area, and up to 90 minutes for multi-area or facial balancing sessions. Most patients return to normal activities the same day.
Consultation & Product Selection
Your provider evaluates your anatomy, reviews your goals, and selects the appropriate Restylane product for your area and desired outcome. Product selection is one of the most important decisions in producing a natural-looking result. Before-and-after photos are taken at this stage.
Numbing
Topical numbing cream is applied and allowed to take full effect before injection begins. Most Restylane products contain lidocaine in the formulation, which provides progressive numbing as the injection proceeds. Lips are the most sensitive area and receive the most thorough numbing protocol.
Filler Placement
Filler is placed using a fine needle or blunt-tip cannula depending on the area and provider preference. Your provider works incrementally — adding small amounts, assessing symmetry and volume in real time, and adjusting as they go. You’ll see progress throughout the session and provide feedback before the final result is set.
Post-Injection Assessment
Your provider assesses symmetry and overall result immediately after treatment. Minor in-session refinements are made as needed. Post-treatment photos are taken, aftercare instructions are reviewed, and a 2-week follow-up is scheduled to assess the settled result and address any touch-up needs.
Results & Settling
Volume is visible immediately, but results should not be judged until swelling resolves — typically at 7–14 days. Lips may feel firm and look swollen for 3–7 days before settling into their final shape. Bruising, if present, resolves within 5–7 days. Final results are assessed at your 2-week follow-up.
Post-Treatment Tips
Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the treated area for 24 hours. Sleep on your back the first night if possible. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive heat for 24–48 hours. Do not schedule dental procedures or facial treatments within 2 weeks of filler. Arnica started the day before treatment can reduce bruising. Patients with a history of cold sores should take antiviral prophylaxis before lip treatment. For full guidance, visit our post-care instructions.
Treatment Options
Restylane fillers are priced per syringe. The number of syringes required depends on the area, degree of correction, and individual anatomy — confirmed during your consultation.
Per Syringe
Most single-area treatments begin at 1 syringe. Your provider will confirm the recommended starting volume at consultation based on your anatomy and goals.
- Lips — 1 syringe
- Cheeks — 1–2 syringes per side
- Under eyes — up to 1 syringe
- Hands — 1–2 syringes per hand
Facial Balancing
Multi-area facial balancing typically uses 3–5+ syringes across cheeks, jawline, chin, and folds. Total cost is confirmed by syringe count at consultation.
- Jawline — 2–4 syringes
- Facial balancing — 3–5+ syringes
- Complimentary consultation included
- Custom multi-product plan
A note on syringe count
- ✓ The number of syringes depends on the area, degree of correction, and your individual anatomy
- ✓ You can always add volume at a follow-up rather than over-treating at the first session
- ✓ ELLEMES offers both Restylane and Juvéderm — your provider selects the right product, not the brand
A consultation is required to finalize your treatment plan and total cost.
Who Performs This Treatment
How Often to Treat
Longevity varies by area, product, and individual metabolism. Your provider will build a realistic maintenance schedule at your 2-week follow-up based on how your result has settled.
Lip filler metabolizes faster than most areas due to constant movement and high vascularity. Restylane Kysse is FDA-approved for up to 12 months in the lips. Most patients schedule a touch-up or full retreatment in this window to maintain their preferred volume and definition.
Restylane Defyne and Refyne in nasolabial folds, and Lyft in the jawline and chin, typically last 12–18 months. Patients who top off their filler before complete dissolution maintain results with less product over time — making proactive maintenance more cost-effective.
Restylane Lyft and Contour in the midface typically last 12–18 months. Hand filler with Lyft lasts approximately 6–12 months depending on hand activity and individual metabolic rate — hands are an active area and product may break down faster than facial placements.
Filler longevity can be affected by GLP-1 medications, high metabolic rate, and significant exercise habits. Patients on our medical weight loss program should discuss timing with their injector before committing to a multi-area filler plan. View all ELLEMES treatments.
