Vivace and Morpheus8 are RF microneedling systems, but clearance and suitability depend on the exact model, handpiece, setting, and indication. The published VIVACE K193070 clearance includes facial wrinkles on Fitzpatrick I–V at 1 MHz; it does not establish clearance for every treatment area or cosmetic claim.
We use Vivace at ELLEMES Medical Spa, so we are transparent about that bias upfront. That said, this is an honest comparison. Morpheus8 is a capable device that does certain things Vivace does not. The right choice depends on your specific concerns, your comfort tolerance, and which clinic in the Atlanta area you trust to perform the treatment well.
The Core Technology: Where They Overlap
Both Vivace and Morpheus8 deliver radiofrequency energy through microneedles that penetrate the skin at adjustable depths. The RF heat creates controlled thermal injury in the dermis, which triggers the body’s wound-healing response — new collagen and elastin production, fiber remodeling, and progressive tissue tightening over the following weeks.
Both devices use insulated needles, meaning the RF energy is emitted from the needle tip rather than along the entire shaft. This concentrates the thermal effect at the target depth while protecting the epidermis — an important safety feature for patients with darker skin tones, who face a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with devices that heat the skin surface.
Both treatments typically require 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart for facial concerns, and both produce results that build cumulatively as collagen matures over 4–8 weeks after each session. The general recovery profile — 24–48 hours of redness and mild swelling — is comparable for facial treatments.
Needle Depth and Treatment Depth
VIVACE K193070 lists adjustable needle exposure from 0.5 to 3.5 mm. That maximum is a device capability, not a recommended depth for every facial area. Tissue thickness varies, and the clinician must assess anatomy and the proposed indication.
Some Morpheus8 Body configurations use pins up to 7 mm with a thermal effect described by the manufacturer as extending farther. Pin depth and heat-effect depth are different. VIVACE’s lower maximum does not guarantee that subcutaneous tissue cannot be affected.
Choose based on the diagnosed concern, anatomy, exact device labeling, and risks—not a rule that deeper is better. Unwanted fat loss is a reported RF microneedling complication, rather than an automatically desirable outcome.
Comfort and Treatment Experience
Both treatments begin with topical numbing applied 30–45 minutes before the procedure, and both are tolerable for the majority of patients. But the comfort level during treatment is not identical between the two devices.
Vivace’s robotic motor controls needle insertion speed and depth with high precision, which tends to produce a smoother, more consistent sensation during treatment. Most patients at our Sandy Springs clinic describe the experience as light pressure with mild warmth. The 36 gold-tipped needles are fine-gauge, and the motorized delivery reduces the “stamping” sensation that older microneedling devices produce.
Morpheus8 is generally reported as a more intense treatment experience. The deeper penetration settings and the way the device delivers RF energy can produce more noticeable heat sensation and pressure, particularly at higher intensity settings used for deeper tissue remodeling. This does not mean the treatment is painful for all patients — numbing and provider technique play a significant role — but patients who have experienced both devices frequently describe Morpheus8 as the less comfortable of the two.
Comfort matters more than some comparison articles suggest. A treatment that patients dread returning for is a treatment they are less likely to complete as a full series — and results from RF microneedling depend on completing the series.
Downtime Differences
Facial recovery varies with settings, area, and the patient. Neither device guarantees next-day makeup or a return to all activities in one to two days; follow the treating provider’s aftercare plan.
However, when Morpheus8 is used at deeper settings or higher RF intensities — particularly for subdermal remodeling or body treatments — downtime can extend to 3–5 days of more pronounced redness, swelling, and in some cases mild bruising. This is a function of the treatment depth, not a flaw in the device. Deeper tissue disruption requires a longer recovery window.
For patients comparing the two devices for standard facial rejuvenation, the recovery difference is minimal. For patients considering Morpheus8’s deeper capabilities, the extended downtime is a practical factor worth planning around.
What Vivace Does That Morpheus8 Does Not
Device comparisons tend to focus on what the deeper, more powerful option can do. But Vivace has characteristics worth noting in its own right.
VIVACE allows depth adjustment, but a motorized mechanism does not prove it is more accurate than every competing device or eliminate risk near the eyes or in thin skin. These areas require specific anatomical assessment.
Consistency across the treatment area: The motorized needle delivery produces uniform penetration across each pass. This matters for even collagen stimulation and predictable results, particularly on larger treatment areas like the full face and neck.
Comfort and willingness to continue vary by patient. An unsupported claim that one brand improves series-completion rates should not decide treatment.
What Morpheus8 Does That Vivace Does Not
We think it is important to be direct about where another device has an advantage, even when we do not carry it.
Subdermal effects: certain Morpheus8 handpieces can affect deeper tissue. That capability does not establish that fat reduction is appropriate for a particular face, and VIVACE should not be described as incapable of affecting fat. The FDA reported serious complications with certain RF microneedling uses in October 2025, including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement, and nerve damage. These reports do not predict an individual patient’s risk, but the possibility of lasting injury belongs in the treatment discussion.
Body treatments: Morpheus8 has a dedicated body handpiece designed for larger surface areas with thicker tissue — the abdomen, arms, thighs, and buttocks. Vivace is designed for the face, neck, and chest.
Burst mode technology: Morpheus8’s Burst mode delivers RF energy at multiple depths in a single pulse cycle, which can treat several tissue layers simultaneously. This is particularly useful for body contouring applications where both dermal tightening and fat reduction are goals.
If fat or body contour is a concern, seek an assessment of suitable options and the exact device’s indication. Sculptra is a volume-restoring treatment and should not be presented as a fat-reduction substitute.
Cost Comparison
Pricing for both treatments varies by clinic, geographic market, and treatment area. At ELLEMES, Vivace RF Microneedling ranges from $800 for the face to $1,350 for face, neck, and chest per session, with package discounts for series of 3 or 5.
Morpheus8 pricing across the Buckhead, Sandy Springs, and Atlanta area generally falls in a similar range — approximately $800 to $1,200 per facial session, with body treatments priced higher depending on the area covered. The per-session cost difference between the two devices is typically modest enough that it should not be the deciding factor. What matters more is whether the device’s capabilities match your specific concern.
How to Decide
The choice between Vivace and Morpheus8 comes down to what you are treating and what matters to you in a treatment experience.
Discuss Vivace when its device-specific indication and risk profile fit your concerns. Comfort, downtime, improvement, and preservation of facial fat cannot be guaranteed by the brand.
Discuss a Morpheus8 option only after assessment of the exact model, area, intended tissue effect, and risks. Greater depth does not establish a better result for every patient.
Either device works well for: general facial rejuvenation, mild to moderate skin laxity, texture improvement, and collagen stimulation in patients with a range of skin tones.
The device matters, but the provider matters more. An experienced provider with either device will outperform an inexperienced provider with the other. Settings, technique, and clinical judgment determine outcomes more than hardware alone. If you are evaluating clinics in the Dunwoody, Brookhaven, or greater Atlanta area, ask your provider why they chose their device, what settings they use for your specific concern, and how many sessions they realistically expect you to need. The quality of that conversation tells you more than the device name on the door.
If you want to discuss whether Vivace RF Microneedling is the right approach for your goals — or whether a different treatment would serve you better — a consultation is the most efficient way to find out.
